baby names

last weekend i took a quick trip home just to escape the cold weather in utah. while walking home from the beach one day i was talking to my niece about her new brother that is expected to come in may. just a little background...this is my oldest brother's (aaron) eldest child that i was talking to. my brother's three kids are the same age as my sister's (leone) youngest three kids. so when they get together, they are practically inseparable. keonaona...my niece that i was talking to loves her saaga cousins so much...this conversation is definitely evidence of that.

me: so naona are you excited you're having a new baby brother?

naona: yup.

me: what's his name?

naona: teancum. that's daddy's favorite person in the scriptures.

me: oh really...cool.

naona: yeah..but we have to think of a hawaiian name for him. like the rest of us.

me: oh yeah...and which family name will he have? you have kamaka'ala (her mother's maiden name), malu boy has rivers (my mother's maiden name), and hiwa has sproat (her maternal grandmother's maiden name). so what name do you think your baby brother is gonna have?

naona: ummm...i don't know...maybe saaga?!

me: buahahahahaha!!!!! GIRL...das your uncle ope's family not your dads!

omg...i just had to post this for memory's sake. that girl has just spent toooooo much time with her saaga cousins.

Update...again...lol

Has it seriously been 21 days since my last entry??? I guess its safe to say that work has totally been keeping me preoccupied. Not to mention that I got a totally cool new toy that has kept me away from my laptop for weeks. LOL! Yes...I am officially a member of the cool iPhone club. Thank you very much. But needless to say, life has been busy. Both at Delta and the Hawaiian Cultural Center. With Delta training coming to an end (WOOT WOOT), I am ready to embark on the wonderful journey of taking calls. It has been a week so far since we've been released to the "wolves", but life has still maintained its serenity...so to speak. I owe it all to my amazing coworkers who help me forget about each frustrating call. Their crazy antics in and out of the workplace always seem to keep me on my toes. LOL.

Anyhoo...life is great. The parentals flew out here last week...finally taking advantage of their flying benefits. Did I mention how AWESOME these benefits are? Lol. Ok...I'll stop. Dad and Aaron celebrated their birthdays today, and since they were both in separate states, they each got their own cake. Precious. The Center is doing great. We've had a few activities the past couple weekends, and I've been seeing new faces coming around, so that's always a good thing.

I've been staying in Salt Lake most of the time, so I haven't been able to see the family as much, which is a bit of a bummer. But its been really helpful on my wallet. But man...these kids never cease to surprise me. The other day I got a text from my cousin, who was taking her daughter, and my niece along with some other girls out for her daughter's little birthday party. Her daughter, Briana, has a little friend, of whom I'm not the biggest fan of. In an attempt to prevent this girls (her name is Clarissa) attitude from rubbing off on my already cheeky niece, I told my niece, "you better not let that girl boss you around. And better yet...you better not act like her, or you're gonna get it." So this little piece of friendly advice was offered over a month ago. Little did I know that my niece would take that to hear, let alone remember it.

So...as my cousin was picking up her daughter's friends, what happens to escape my niece's mouth as Clarissa gets in the car?????

"My aunty said she doesn't like you!"

Ahahahahahahaha....oka...my cousin just about died. She text me the incident and I was rolling. So it's totally true what they say. Children are MORE than impressionable...and they do say the darndest things. So be careful what you say in front of them, because it just might bite you in the butt! LOL!

Texting 101

Oh the joys of texting. This is nothing new to me. I've enjoyed the benefits of texting for quite some time now, but to share this magical new world with my DAD has been quite adventurous. It all started last night when my sister texted her new phone number to everyone in her contacts list...including my Dad. Due to his lack of experience with text messages, he proceeded to call her back, which instigated the following conversation:

Dad: Did you call?

Sister: No...I texted you!! You not supposed to call me back, you supposed to text me!

Dad: Oh!

He later comes out of the room and tells me, "your sister sent me a text and i supposed to text her back. How I do that?"

Since his phone is equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard, I proceeded to instruct him on the art of "replying" to text messages. Surprisingly he picked it up pretty quickly. His excitement heightened when my sister replied to his reply and their TEXTersation continued! Amongst all the excitement, I texted my brother to inform him of the late breaking news, and HE texted Dad afterwards. This lead to the greatest milestone ever!

Dad: Oh...Jared texted me.

Me: Well, reply. You know how now.

Dad: pulls out his glasses "Ok...lets see." He then proceeds to have a TEXTersation with my brother.

I don't remember the exact message that was received on my Dad's end, but it was something cheeky enough for my Dad to say, "eh! Poto 'oe!" His popular remark after we joke around with him.

Dad: How you spell..."eh"

Me: Hahaha....E-H.

Dad: "Ok...how you write the EXCLAMATORY MARK on dis ting"

Me thinking: what the heck is an exclamatory mark?!?!?!?!?! OH...he meant EXCLAMATION POINT!!! hahahahahahaha!!!!

I couldn't stop from laughing inside. This experience was definitely blogworthy. So...I thought I'd share with my fellow bloggers...not to mention I had to document this moment. This is definitely one for the books along with his "mermaid" moment. Hahahaha. Ahh...the joys of living with the parentals and teaching them the new technology!

Random Conversations with the Parentals

I LOVE my parents to eternity! Yesterday, I went to pick them up from the airport after a three day trip to the Big Island where Mom was a representative for BYUH Admissions at the various Career Fairs on the island. Dad, of course, went along as her "personal assistant/chauffer." Hahaha. Well, on the way home, I was entertained by their constant bickering, and "frustration" with each other. I guess that's what happens after being married for 36 years. Lol!

Anyhoo, we started talking about all the weddings that were planned for next month, considering the temple will be closing for the next 18 months or so. This is how it went....

ME: Spencer Hafoka's getting married next month.

MOM: Oh wow! Good for him!

DAD: What about 'Inoke?

ME: Uhhh...'Inoke is a Funaki...not a Hafoka.

DAD: I know dat! I just asking...when HE getting married?

ME: Hahaha. I don't know.

DAD: And what about his braddah?

MOM: Yeah...the one that graduated with Jason?

DAD: Yeah...when he getting married? He still dating da Moea'i girl?

ME: I don't know.

DAD: You better tell him hurry up before he become one mermaid!

ME (thinking to myself): Mermaid?! Is that a new slang? Am I behind on the new lingo?

MOM: MERMAID?! Hahahahahaha! You mean OLD Maid! Hahahahahahaha. And you don't call a guy an OLD maid!

ME/MOM: BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
(constant laughter for the next five minutes)

DAD: Well, whateva! You know what I mean. Yeah. Go...laugh! I'm glad I can make you two laugh!

Oh man! This was probably the highlight of my day!!!! I laughed so hard. My dad always seems to have his moments...but I think this one is probably Top Ten status. Gotta love it!
